Kim  works for Mr. Tran, a grumpy and mean old man who exploits the poor children of Hanoi. During the monsoon, Kim walks accross the streets with his box of shoe polish looking for pair of shoes to clean but the weather is too hot and nobody wears a pair of leather shoes! Kim goes back to the workshop without any money. He is desperate and decides to rest at the water's edge of the Hoan Kiem Lake.             There, he  meets a strange creature which will change the course of his poor existence.

A beautiful story that combines a Vietnamese legend and the reality of some poor children.
